Default Question about HID's

I have read that the HID kits with lamp and ballast are illegal. I have also read posts that indicated that the legality was related to the state you are in. Does anyone know where to look up this information for each state?

Thanks.

HID's belong in cars not bikes. I think they are totally annoying when they bounce all around when that person is behind you. Just my honest opinion

That's where I'm not seeing (no pun intended) reliable information about HID's. What constitutes a "correct" installation.

At this point I'm not interested in installing them. However, if it turns out that I wind up riding at night frequently, I want to know what the options are and I'm really interested in doing things correctly.

AND, I respect honest opinions from both sides. I'm not going to agree with one side, but that doesn't mean it isn't a valid opinion.

Cheers!

well shits were probably bouncing around because the bulb ( itself ) does not fit in the light socket correctly or they never placed the light socket in its place and twisted it so it locks......make sure u get a kit ( they fit both ) for bikes......brad from mr. cycles hooked me up with these kits.....the guys who installed them say they were awesome.....www.starrotors.com.......also alot of hid kits don't come with hi and low beam this kit does, took 2 days to get the kit....

The bouncing around is not because it's HID, it's because it's projection and has a clear image projection cut off area. The R1 comes stock with projection lighting and has the same issue. While they are not true HID, they are projection and have the same bouncing issue, but they are the best stock lights I have ever seen too.

I guess what I was trying to say is that when someone has them installed incorrectly they are very annoying!! All that bouncing around drives me nuts!! Maybe it is just me but I think HID's in cars are awesomelook really good. Hell even my gsxr has a projector but I just think it looks funny. But if you get the kit gat a picture up I would like to see it.

Well I have HID's & love them. They light up the road like like CRAZY!! Also, people see me A LOT better during DAY & night.
I'll never go back to regular bulbs again.
I can't see how HID's could be illegal as they come from the factory in automobiles & are DOT approved. Strange...

Josh

maybe I wouldn't have gotten hit if my hid's were in my bike and not on the shelf... I got a set of ballasts that I never put in. Need to see if my buddy wants them. If not I will probably offer them up for sale.
