910 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  GSXRMyers
has anyone ever refilled their steering damper?
Is this something that needs to be done?
If so how is it done?
Does the oil degrade after time?
Just wondering or am I

Many people have and there is many different opinions as what works best. I drained and refilled mine with 10wt fork oil but I don't like it I'm going to change it out to 5wt. some guys are using 15wt. Stock is 2.5wt oil. I would suggest trying 5wt and working your way up until you find the low speed steering is to heavy then go back down in weight.
o.k. I will try the 5wt.
Now another question?
how is the best way to do it?
Do you just unscrew it and put it back together when it is fully sumerged in the oil?

There is a screw on the side of the damper.. you need to unscrew that and push the damper closed to get the old fluid out. I would drain the old oil into a cup or something so that you can measure what you took out and then use the same amount of new fluid. When you go to refill the the damper you will need to submerge it since the hole is too small for funnel.
