I’m working on a 1982 Suzuki gs 125 bike as a project with school kids. It is the kick start only and seems to be a very early model, not even a kill switch. The previous owner took off the ac cdi and cut the connectors off the wires, in an attempt to wire them into a non stock ac cdi. The closest wiring diagram I have (Haynes gs 125 1982) shows 2 trigger wires from the stator, 1 earth wire, and 3 wires coming from the primary coil (if that’s the correct term) matching the colours of my wires. The wiring diagram shows a separate wire going from the back of the cdi to the coil. I don’t know what the cdi number was but the two most likely candidates don’t seem to match this description and in any event would cost more than the bike did.
I’m thinking of a couple of possibilities.
the first is to try to wire it to a modern 6 pin ac cdi, with the coil pin directly connected to the coil. However this leaves me with 3 power wires coming from the stator and only 2 pins to receive them Would anyone know if I can join two of the wires, which two? or just blank one off.
another option would be to replace the stator with a newer one, either brand new or from a breaking gn 125. The engine number is F409-10308 (there’s a faint J or 3 after the 8). The number on the stator is 052000-2490 5BZ. What would be a suitable upgrade? At worst I’d consider buying an engine but again this is a very expensive option as I’m doing this on a shoestring. I’m in NI, not a lot of old gs 125s about to check out the wiring. Any help appreciated
