GSF650 Bandit 650 Fuel Gauge Sensor Unplugged.

Howdy Folks,

I have a GSF650 Bandit 2012, previous owner dropped it and damaged the speedo so replaced it with a speedo from a GSX650F.
The fuel gauge wasn't working, so I pulled out the tank to check the sensor - turns out it was just unplugged.

Is there any reason it should have been unplugged? I feel like if would have been immediately obvious since the first start after whatever work was done in the tank would have shown an empty gauge - can't help but think there's some reason behind it.

Any ideas or am I just being paranoid?
