I bought a new battery yesterday, stuck it in (ha-ha) and she started right up.

Before, I had noticed it seemed to take a lot longer to crank up but I thought maybe it was from the dying battery.

Anyways, I get on the bike today, crank it up and let it warm up while I put my helmet and gloves on and screw around. Well not 10-15 seconds later the stupid thing dies for no apparent reason. It takes a LONG time for it to crank back up again, I thought it wasn't going to. I also got a flashing F.I. light. But i've also noticed that if the bike is cut off without turning the key to the off position and then restarted (for example if you accidentally hit hte kill switch and then re-start the bike without turning the key to the off position and back on) the light will come on and blink and do the same thing. So I don't know if it's a false alarm or what.

Anybody have any ideas? Starter solenoid? Fuel pump? Right hand controls going bad?

I've juuuuust about had it with this bike.

Oh yeah and I have head bearings on the way because those are bad too.

That sucks. If my bike sits for a while, when I first start it, it will lope really bad (LIke it's got a huge cam in it) and then dies. After that it's fine.

I just replaced my steering head bearings too :biggrin

mel did you get it going again w/o having to jump it or charge the battery? just trying to eliminate the battery and charging system. If the battery isn't being recharged it will only last 10-30 seconds before it dies then needs charged again

I hear ya and I appreciate it.

I rescued this bike, saved it from a fate worse than death and this is how it repays me!

It used to be a stretched out, slammed, drag racer with an air shifter and nitrous on it, I should have turned and ran.

Mel, my 03 did the same thing and I found that the cutoff switch was going bad. If I didn't click it firmly to run it would do that AND had a tendency to cut out mid corner!!!

On another note, head bearings??? Crap, our bikes are almost identical so I guess it's time to look at mine too.
